
Injuries
Injuries are a part of physical activity which almost everyone will experience at some point. It can have physical and psychological implications on your sporting performance.

Sporting injuries come in a variety of forms but understanding some methods of prevention and management can help you to stay healthy. Symptoms and causes of injury differ according to the type of injury you have. In most cases it is pain that gives us the first sign of injury.

Classification of Injuries
(A) Acute injuries – occur suddenly in a activity. Pain and loss of function are immediate. These are either classed as indirect (internal force) or direct, caused by external force such as collision.
e.g. Collisions with opponents or obstacles or falling from height or at speed.


(B) Chronic injuries – caused by continuous stress on body part over a long time. Tend to start out as acute injuries and then reoccur as a result of weaknesses to the injured site or insufficient rehabilitation after injury.
e.g. training too hard, poor footwear and bad technique.

(C) Overuse injuries - caused by excessive and repeated use of the same muscle, joint and bone. These can turn into stress fractures over time.

Pain at the site of the injury.
Swelling of the injured area.
Nausea.
