Year 8
MICHAELMAS TERM: POLITICAL PARTIES
This term you will begin to learn more about the British political system; the different parties and what they represent as well as understanding what a manifesto is and what it means to live in a democratic society. You will go on to work in small groups over a series of weeks to create your own political party (name and logo) and manifesto, which promises 4 – 5 policies that can cover a range of topics. This is a competition, which is judged!
LENT TERM: MY FRIENDS AND ME
This term begins with a trip to watch ‘Wicked’, which launches the topic of friendship. Different themes of popularity, exclusion and kindness are explored; understanding how to be a good friend and recognising healthy and unhealthy relationships. This links to themes of identity and having a positive sense of self.
TRINITY TERM: KINDNESS AND CAREERS
Following on from friendships, you will start this term with a campaign for kindness and create a year group Kindness Contract. You will also explore what discrimination looks like and feels like, developing your understanding of the equalities act. The latter part of the term will have a focus on careers.
