Giving to Others

During Covid-19 times some organisations have, in the short term, changed their focus and their remit to focus on supporting the most vulnerable whilst others are no longer able to accept young volunteers*. During the coming weeks we hope to put together a list, which will continually evolve, of opportunities for you to get involved with our local community.

GHS is in the very heart of Guildford with numerous opportunities to become involved with our local community and in various ways. You could volunteer in local hospices & hospitals as well as with Disability Challengers, based at the other end of Stoke Park, whom the school have had a long relationship with.

Are you in the Sixth Form?

There are opportunities to teach year 5 and 6 girls Maths once a week at Holy Trinity school or Music at St Nicholas' C of E Primary.

*Enjoy writing?

Why not become a pen pal to one of the many residents who live in local care homes and almshouses in and around Guildford? This activity is possible during Covid-19 restrictions and, in fact, with doors to the outside world being shut and no visitors being allowed in, our outreach work to these members of our society has never been more important. This activity was initiated by our current Year 8 and 9 and their letters became a real highlight for those receiving them. It’s an easy thing to do with huge rewards for both parties.

If you would like to get involved with any of these initiatives or would like more support in finding how to volunteer, please email Mrs Hall: jenni.hall@guildfordhigh.co.uk
