LGBTQ+ RECOMMENDATIONS - LOWER SCHOOL

TOP 3 MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

The Way He Looks (12A)

A beautiful coming of age movie about a blind teenager falling in love with the new boy at school. It’s in Portuguese but definitely worth the watch with subtitles.

The Imitation Game (12A)

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing in this historical drama. Alan Turing was a pioneering mathematician and code breaker during WW2 who was eventually convicted of gross indecency due to his homosexuality; the Imitation Game tells his story.

Love, Simon (12A)

Love, Simon is a warm-hearted romantic comedy centred about Simon Spier, a closeted teen boy who falls in love with an anonymous classmate after communicating with him online. A spin off show, Love Victor, has recently aired on Hulu.

TOP 3 TV SHOW RECOMMENDATIONS

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

An animated Netflix original that tells the tale of a teenager named Adora, who gains powers that allow her to turn into the titular heroine, She Ra. Emboldened with this power, Adora leads a group of other magical princesses in an alliance to defeat the evil Horde, who are led by Lord Hordak. A beautifully diverse reboot of an iconic 80s show.

One Day At a Time

A sitcom revolving around a Cuban-American family that tackles important issues such as gender identity, racism, mental illness and homophobia.

Adventure Time

An animated fantasy series that follows the adventures of Finn and his best friend, Jake, a dog with the magical power to change size and shape at will.
